Why do two neighbouring council websites explain the same service in completely different ways, with completely different results for the people trying to use them? That question has followed me through years of digging into how local health services actually reach people — not just how they're supposed to work on paper.

A Writer's Eye, An Analyst's Habits

I keep a running spreadsheet of every public health leaflet I've picked up at a GP surgery, scored for clarity, tone, and whether a stressed-out reader could actually act on it in under a minute. That's the analyst in me. The writer in me is the one who then rewrites the worst offenders just to see if it's possible to say the same thing better. Both halves feed each other constantly.

What You'll Find Here

I spend a fair amount of time testing how council services look from the inside — booking appointments, navigating referral pathways, comparing how different boroughs communicate the same entitlements. That hands-on friction is what keeps the writing honest rather than theoretical.

  • Plain-language breakdowns of local health entitlements
  • Comparisons of council service models across regions
  • Practical guides for first-time and repeat service users
  • Occasional deep dives when a trend genuinely surprises me

If you're newly navigating these systems or you've been at it for years, there's usually something here worth your time. Drop by my recent posts, or say hello through contact — I read every message.
